Entry requirements
Two years studies on an engineering or science programme. Course in physical chemistry is recommended.
Aims
To give basic knowledge about the physical chemistry of different types of colloid and macromolecular systems, such as dispersions and gels, and an orientation about some relevant experimental techniques, as well as some industrila and medical applications.
Content
Intermolecular interactions. Thermodynamics for polymer systems. Particulate and polymer gels - structure and rheological properties. Synthesis of cross-linked gels. Rubber eleasticity. Gel swelling. Microgels.
Instruction
Lectures and laboratory work. Course project.
Assessment
Hand-in exercises. Passed laboratory course and presentation of course project is also required. This can gíve the grades Failed (U) or Passed (G). To obtain Passed with distinctions (VG), a passed extended project is also required. The laboratory course corresponds to 2 credit points.
