Entry requirements

Knowledge and skills corresponding courses in Organic Chemistry NV1, 10 credit points. Chromatography and Spectroscopy MN1, 10 credit points. The course in Physical Organic Chemistry MN1, 10 credit points is recommended.

Aims

The course is intended to provide knowledge and understanding of: Applications of theories in organic chemistry, organic synthetic methods, experimental methods used for organic synthesis, use of chromatography and spectroscopy in connection with

organic synthesis, use of information from chemical literature and practical handeling of organic synthesis.

Content

Organic reaction mechanisms. Organic synthetic reactions. Strategy in synthesis. Chemical documentation. Writing reports and giving oral presentations. Experiments: Realisation of reaction sequenses with a preparative purpose with the application of expermintal and analytic techniques.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars, laboratory work and demonstrations. Training in oral and written reports.

Assessment

Examination is arranged during and/or at the end of the course. The laboratory work must also be passed. Students who have failed a test have the right to take a new examination at the end of the autumn semester, after Christmas vacations and at the end of the spring semester.
