Aims

The course is intended to provide acquaintance of

- ecological consequences of abiotic compounds in the environment.

- global, regional and local effects on the environment.

- life cycle assessment.

- risk management and risk assessment.

- authorities laws and regulations.

Content

The course treats how chemical compounds are distributed and how they influence the environment and living organisms. Structure and activity relationships and the importance of equilibria in the environment are discussed. The course contains the following subjects: Atmospheric chemistry, chemistry in natural waters as well as drinking water, metals and organic compounds in the environment. Metabolism and toxicity of organic compounds in the human body. Coonsumer products effect on the environment. A report is written and discussed. Authority laws and regulations.

Lectures, seminars.

Assessment

Examination is arranged during the course. Students who failed a test have the right to take a new examination at the end of the autumn semester, after Christmas vacations and at the end of the spring semester.
