Knowledge and skills corresponding to the course Synthetic Organic Chemistry 5 credit points.
Aims
After completion of the course the student should be able to:

Use the knowledge from earlier courses to carry out multistep synthesis.

Identify and analyse possible routes to a specific target molecule by means of retrosynthetic analysis.

Identify and explain stereochemical terms such as, chirality, stereoisomer and stereoselectivity.

Describe and identify methods for stereoselective synthesis of chiral compounds.

Name and explain the fundamental reactions in organometallic chemistry (i.e. oxidative addition, transmetallation, ligand substitution).

Apply organometallic reactions in organic synthesis.

Use advanced methods for the selective preparation of compounds with complicated structures.

Plan and dimension laboratory equipment for varios types of reactions.
Content
Organometallic chemistry and its use in asymmetric catalysis. Kiral material and reagents. Kiral auxiliary and enzyme catalysis. Determination of optical purity with aid of polarometry, chromatography, and NMR.
Instruction
Lectures, seminars and laboratory work. Laboratory work are obligatory.
Assessment
Examination is arranged at the end of the course. The laboratory work must also be passed.
