Aims

To give basic knowledge in methods used in

studying bimechanical systems with emphasis on

methods for measuring, analysing and

visualising movement pattern and forces in the

human body.

Content

The course is focused on analysis and measuring

methods used at a system level to study human

biomechnics. A central theme in the course is

modelling. The following topics are covered.

Modelling. Rigid body mechanics, continum

mechanics, fluid mechanics. Soft parts properties,

the properties of the blood and skeleton.

Simulation examples including balance during

standing, car collision, pulse expansion in blood

veins.

Visualisation. Graphical modelling of human

movement, virtual reality, animation of walking,

vector data combined with video pictures.

Measuring. Video, movement measuring principles,

force sensors, EMG, flow rate measuring,

pressure measuring.

Identification. Estimation of parameters for

movements (walking) and inverted pendelum

(standing).

Instruction

Lectures, lessons and compulsory assignments.

Study visits.

Assessment

Written examination at the end of the course.

Passed compulsory

assignments are also required.
