previous knowledge: Applied and Environmental Geophysics MN1,

Aims

Introduce the student to time series analysis

applied to geophysical problems. Teach the student

the basics of applying computer methods to

geophysical data processing.

Content

Z and Fourier transforms, 2D transforms, one-sided

functions, filtering of temporal and spatial series,

spectral estimation, resolution in time and

frequency, matrices and multi-channel time series,

data modelling by least squares, waveform

applications of least squares, wave propagation in

horizontally layered media, mathematical physics in

horizontally layered media, applications to other

geophysical methods

Instruction

Lectures, exercises, computer labs.

Assessment

Written exam at the end of the course. Mandatory

participation in computer labs.
