Aims

The course provides knowledge about the function and structure of cellular macro-molecular machines. It should provide a knowledge base and inspire students to build, control and use these machines.

Content

The course has focus on macro-molecular machines important for the expression and regulation of the cellular hereditary material. Molecular interactions including mechanisms at the replication of nucleic acids, transcription/post-transcriptional processing of RNA, protein translation, post-translational processes, and protein/RNA cellular transport. Molecular experimental methods for the studies of molecular interactions and reaction mechanisms. The use of macro-molecular machines, natural and synthetic, within pharmaceutical research.

Practical: The control of macro-molecular machines in simple in vitro experiments.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars and laboratory experiments.

Assessment

A written exam at the end of the course. Passed laboratory experiment, a mini-symposium and literature seminars gives two of the course credits.
