General entry requirements

Aims

The main objective of the course is to provide the student with basic knowledge on the Swedish political system i.e. its main characteristics, its main actors and its history. Swedish welfare policy and gender politics are introduced as well.

Instruction

The teaching activities, all of which can be found on the website, consist of five lectures and two seminars. Course participants are further expected to do private studies in the literature so that the total time spent on course studies amounts to at least forty hours/week during the period of the course.

Attendance at lectures is voluntary. On the opposite, attendance at seminars is compulsory. Students not participating in seminars are expected to compensate for absence by answering the seminar questions in writing on a minimum of five pages within a period of three months from the seminar-date.

Assessment

At the end of the course, the student will face the final written four-hour test on the course literature. Having passed this test and the two seminars the student has fulfiled the obligations of the course and will receive five credit units for the efforts. Course marks are given in a scale of sex steps - from F to A. Primarily, course marks are based on results from the written four-hour test i.e. if the student has fulfiled the seminar obligations, the total sum of points in the written four-hour test will be decisive for the course mark the student receives at the end of the course.
