Aims
The aim of the course is to give a background for continued studies in
mathematics by practising the ability to reason logically and by introducing
basic concepts from the differential and integral calculus in one variable.
Content
Differential and integral calculus for functions
of one real variable: Real numbers, inequalities,
suprema and infima, elementary functions, limits
of functions and sequences, continuity and
differentiability, extreme values, curve
sketching, the Riemann integral and techniques
of integration, areas and volumes, Taylor's
formula, numerical series, separable and linear
first order differential equations and second
order linear differential equations with
constant coefficients.
Instruction
Lectures and problem solving sessions.
Assessment
Written examination at the middle and the end of
the course. Moreover, compulsory assignments may
be given during the course.
