Aims

To provide basic knowledge of the evolution and origin of life on Earth, mainly through exploring the rise of the vertebrates.

Content

Evolutionary theory. Beginnings of life. The Cambrian world. The Palaeozoic seas. The invasion of land. The rise of the reptiles. Dinosaurs and birds. The Tertiary world. The

rise of primates and Man.

Instruction

Lectures, seminars and practicals. Field trip if possible.

Assessment

Examination at the end of the course. Moreover, the compulsory laboratory work, seminars and hand-in exercises must be approved. Possible course grades are "fail", "pass" or "pass with distinction". A student who fails the exam may try again in the beginning of January or June or in the end of August.
