Entry requirements
Mathematics, 90 ECTS credits. Knowledge of
topology, integration theory and distribution
theory facilitates the understanding of the
course as well as this course facilitates the
understanding of those courses.
Aims
To provide the basic concepts and theorems within functional analysis.
Content
Normed spaces, Banach spaces and Hilbert spaces.
The Hahn-Banach theorem, duality and weak
convergence. Continuous and compact linear
mappings. Classical Banach spaces and integral
equations. The Baire category theorem and its
consequences.
Instruction
Lectures and problem solving sessions.
Assessment
Written and usually oral examination at the end
of the course. Moreover, compulsory assignments
may be given during the course.
