DV1.

Content

Differential and integral calculus for functions of

several variables:

Continuity, partial derivatives,

the chain rule and the gradient, Taylor's

formula. Local and global extreme values. Extreme

values with side conditions.

Multiple integrals.

MATLAB may be used for visualisation.

Matrix computation: matrix classes, transformations

and factoring. Computation of eigenvalues,

iterative methods for large systems of linear

equations. Computation methods for inconsistent

equation systems. Complexity, graphs and conditioning.

Numerical solution of elliptic PDE to tie up with

calculus of several variables and to generate big,

non-reducible equation systems.

Instruction

Lectures and laboratory sessions.

Assessment

Written and, possibly, oral examination at the end of the

course. Moreover, compulsory assignments will be

given during the course.
