Entry requirements
Mechanics I.
Aims
To give knowledge about the basic principles of solid mechanics, mechanical behaviour of engineering materials, methods to solve important types of solid mechanics problems and ability to apply the knowledge for solution of simple problems of practical importance.
Content
Material properties: elastic, elastic-plastic, and viscoelastic materials. Rods in tension and compression, simple trusses. Torsion of circular shafts. Bending of beams: stresses and deformations. Analysis of stress and strain. Theory of failure. Yield criteria. Fatigue. Fundamental theory of stability.
Instruction
Lectures and lessons, laboratory work.
Assessment
Written examination at the end of the course. Passed laboratory course is also required.
