Entry requirements

Scientific computing I, Programming I and Programming II or the equivalent and at least 100 points within the Master of Science Programmes in Engineering, the Computer Sciences Programme or the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Programme.

Aims

To give knowledge and experience in writing efficient programs on high performance computers with modern architectures. To give knowledge on organisation and analysis of software and tools for this.

Content

Use of C/C++ in high performance computing. Fortran 95 and comparison to other

languages. Portability. Tools for problem solving and program development, debugging, organisation of code, scripting languages, such as Python, analysis of performance. Different types of computer architecture and memory organisation. Efficient implementation of numerical methods on modern architectures. Applications from different areas in science and technology.

Instruction

Lectures, laboratory work and compulsory assignments.

Assessment

Written examination at the end of the course, and compulsory

assignments.
