Accepted to the physiotherapy programme.
Aims
The aim of the course is to provide basic knowledge of the anatomy and development of the human body required for continued studies in the subject physiotherapy and for the work as physiotherapist.
AIMS FOR the COURSE
After completed course, the student should:
* verbally or in writing (text and/or figures) be able to describe the general structure of cells and tissues
* verbally or in writing (text and/or figures) be able to describe the detailed structure of connective tissue, cartilage, bone, muscles and joints and how these are influenced of inactivity/activity
* verbally or in writing be able to report in detail for the descriptive and topographic structure of the trunk and the extremities as regards the skeleton, the joints with adherent ligaments and surrounding muscles
* be able to identify the muscles shown on a photograph of trunk and extremities
* verbally or in writing be able to describe the blood supply of the trunk and the extremities in broad outline and the motor innervation of the trunk and the extremities in detail
* verbally or in writing be able to report generally for the macroscopic structure of the head with respect to skeleton, temporomandibular joint with surrounding muscles, sight, hearing and balance organs, upper respiratory passage, throat, blood supply and innervation.
* verbally or in writing be able to report generally for meningnes, cerebrospinal fluid systems and the blood supply of the brain and the spinal cord
* verbally or in writing be able to report in detail for the macro - and microscopical structure of the central and peripheral nervous system including cranial nerves and pathways
* verbally or in writing be able to describe the macroscopic structure of the circulatory and respiratory organs including blood supply and innervation
* verbally or in writing be able to report generally for the macroscopic structure of the abdomen and pelvic organs including blood supply and innervation.
* be able to identify and name palpable bone parts, joints, ligaments and muscles on trunk and extremities on living man
* be able to apply his/her anatomic knowledge in an imaginary clinical situation
* be able to communicate anatomic conditions both with patients and with colleagues
* be able to take part of scientific work that requires knowledge in anatomy
Content
The course divided in 4 sub-courses: general anatomy, the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system and the internal organs.
1. General anatomy: The theory of evolution and embryology. Structural cell biology and tissue theory, especially regarding musculoskeletal system and nervous systems. The fundamental structure of muscles and joints. Structural and biomechanical effects of activity, inactivity and injury.
2. The anatomy of the musculoskeletal system: The skeleton, joints, muscles, vessels and nerves of the extremities and the trunk.
3. Neuroanatomy: Micro and macroscopic anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous system. Motor and sensory pathways.
4. Organ anatomy: Structure and innervation of blood vessels. Stucture, vascular supply, innervation and topography of heart and lungs. General structure, vascular supply and innervation of digestive systems, urinary organ and genital organs.
Instruction
Teaching is given in the form of lectures, group assignments, training examinations with oral feed-back, muscle and joint preparation demonstration. Anatomical experiments (compulsory).
Assessment
Written examination with 2 parts. Passed course requires both parts in the examination to be passed and requires attendance at anatomical palpation exercises.
Students who have not passed the examination are offered to sit for further examinations 4 times (=total of 5 examinations). If the student can adduce special reasons the programme committee can admit an additional examination. Every time the student actually sits for an examination will be counted as an examination. Submission of a so called blank test is counted as an examination.
