Entry requirements
Chemistry 45 ECTS (including Biochemistry 15 ECTS), cell biology 15 ECTS, molecular genetics 30 ECTS and mathematics 30 ECTS. Knowledge of x-ray crystallography is recommended.
Aims
The course will provide deeper knowledge of biological macro molecules dynamic structures and of the advanced physical methods currently available for the study of these structures.
Content
Methods for studies of structures and dynamics: diffraction and dynamics; elastic/inelastic, monochromatic/polychromatic, x-ray, electron and neutron diffraction. Quantum scattering. Interactions between photons and matter. Holography and holographic imaging. Spectroscopy and dynamics.
Simulations. Tools for studies of structural dynamics: lasers, continuous and pulse laser spectroscopy, laser induced plasma sources, wake-field accelerators, synchrotrons and related accelerators, optical trapping, mass spectrometry, diffraction methods for single molecules, production of ultra short radiation pulses.
Instruction
Lectures, computer exercises and seminars.
Assessment
Hand-in assignments. Seminar assignments. Reports on computer exercises.
