What is a course syllabus?

Entry requirements

The course is open for students admitted to the Uppsala School of Entrepreneurship.

Aims

Upon completion of the course, participants will have:

  • Received an orientation on important concepts and models in the field of organisation and management.

  • Received training in formulating their own well-founded opinions about organisational conditions, both in writing and orally.

  • Gained insight into some of the methods available for practical training in amangement and change.

  • Obtained knowledge of the function of the ?chain of control?, i.e. owners, the Board, and the different roles of executive managers with respect to the management of a business.

  • Obtained knowledge (opportunities/difficulties) of the control cycle of a business, i.e. business planning, evaluation, and follow-up.

  • Obtained knowledge in basic cost estimation (product and investment cost estimation).

  • Obtained knowledge in basic accounting.

  • Obtained knowledge in basic business analysis.

  • Obtained knowledge about important issues involving project control.

    Content

    A dynamic business is characterised both by stability and change. In other words, it must be organised in such a manner that new ideas can develop while at the same time established structures and systems will make it possible to carry out operations in an efficient manner. The entire course deals with this important balance between stability and change. To a great extent, the course deals with the importance of the individual to the creative development of a business. Individuals who collaborate in a positive manner can create very good results. Therefore, in the first part of the course great importance is attached to the individual?s own motivation and ability to function in various forms of collaboration. In the second part of the course, greater importance is placed on the stabilising mechanisms as manifested by an interest in the management control of a business.
