Aims
The course gives deepened knowledge about current techniques in molecular biology and their applications within research. It mediates deepened knowledge about properties and functions of macromolecules in biological processes.
Content
Structure and function of nucleic acids and proteins. Protein domains. The molecular base of genetic information; molecular interactions including reaction mechanisms in replication of nucleic acids, in transcription and post-transcriptional processing of mRNA, in protein translation and post-translational processes. Experimental methodology in molecular biology for the studies of molecular interactions and reactions mechanisms. Evolutionary aspects. Emphasis is put on large scale methods for systematic analysis of e.g. gene expression and molecular interactions. Functional genomics and proteomics.
