Aims
To give the students an introduction to meteorology, hydrology and geophysic.
Content
Basics of the atmospheric structure. Introduction to physical mechanism, that regulate
atmospheric system. Equations of motions on different scales. Overview of weather
systems in different climate regimes and their interaction with the global circulation.
Mechanism for development of clouds and precipitation. Meteorological link to other
sciences and its importance to different activities in the society. Introduction to
numerical models used for prognostic and climate modelling. Meteorological
instruments.
Instruction
Problem based learning is used. Four cases are given and the learning is based on them. Discussions, meetings, lectures and laboratory work.
Assessment
Possible course grades are “fail”, “pass” or “pass with distinction”
