General entry requirements

Aims

To provide an introductory knowledge about the classification and identification of minerals, rocks and fossils, and a presentation of the environments where they form and/or exist. General knowledge about the evolution of life on Earth will also be provided.

Content

Introduction to the classification of minerals, rocks and fossils. Identification methods and typical environments. Introduction to the processes forming minerals and rocks. Review of the evolution of life through the history of Earth.

Instruction

Lectures and compulsory practical exercises and excursions.

Assessment

Examination during or at the end of the course. In addition, the compulsory parts must be approved. Possible course grades are ³fail², ³pass² ³pass with distinction². A student who fails in the exam may try again in the beginning of autumn term.
