Aims

The course aims to offer students from all university departments an overview and a scientifically based understanding of different viewpoiints on environmental and developmental issues and to give a critical analysis of some of the most important environmental and developmental problems. The course should also provide knowledge on different views and ideologies within the environmental and developmental field, training in critical analysis of controverses and of similarities and differences between different views as well as an understanding of how communication over disciplinary borders can contribute to a deeper insight of those issues.

Content

Basic concepts. The development of environmental issues, the history of the concept of development, sustainable development and a exposition and critical analyses of the contemporary thinking about environment- and development problems.

Instruction

Lectures, literature seminars, literature studies, group discussions and group exercises. The lectures are given by the course administration and guest lecturers.

Assessment

Grades are pass or fail. PM. Compulsory participation in seminars and group exercises. Extra examination are provided for students who failed.
