The project aims at investigating the role of culture, religion and tradition for the clinical encounter, with sexual and reproductive healthcare providers and Muslim patients. Results from our previous research have demonstrated an unequal distribution of reproductive health between ethnic groups in Sweden. Preconceptions of care grounded in different religious and sociocultural traditions as well as miscommunication were explanatory factors to the adverse outcomes. Myths, morality and sensitive issues as sexuality, chastity, abortion, fertility regulation or harmful practices are inevitable components. However, these aspects have not fully been investigated in the concept of person-centred care. We aim to identify in what situations cultural and religous differences between providers and Muslim patients are an issue, and to implement the findings in order to reduce reproductive health inequities.
