GaW at ESSHC in Leiden

Last week, members of the GaW team participated in the European Social Science History Conference (ESSHC) in Leiden, the Netherlands. The conference took place from 26 to 29 in 2025.

Jonas Lindström presented the latest results from GaW research “The Gender Division of Work in Early Modern Scandinavia: Patterns and Variations” in the session “Labouring around the variations of gender and work in Europe (1500-1850): sources, methods, opportunities, and pitfalls”. The other speakers were Jane Whittle (University of Exeter), Mark Hailwood (University of Bristol), Hélder Carvalhal (Uppsala University), Filipa Riberio da Silva and Karin Hofmeester (International Institute of Social History).

The session, as well as the conference as a whole, was a rewarding experience, with lots of interesting thoughts being exchanged.
