This is the first study including a consecutive sample of clinical cancer patients and targeting an internet based intervention to those who are defined to have anxiety or depression symptoms according to internet based screening. The project has been developed in collaboration with patient representatives and clinicians. The main purpose is to evaluate the effects of internet based stepped care (StepCare) on anxiety, depression and health related quality of life (HRQoL) in cancer patients, compared to standard care and to evaluate the health economic effects of the intervention. Patients with breast, colorectal or prostate cancer are included. Patients with anxiety or depression symptoms are randomised to StepCare or standard care. StepCare includes lectures and written information about the disease, common symptoms and strategies to improve and prevent psychological and physical problems.
