Native Mass Spectrometry and Related Methods for Structural Biology5-6 October 2015, UppsalaIn 2015 SMSS (The Swedish Mass Spectrometry Society) plans to interact with COST’s Biomedicine and Molecular Biosciences (BMBS) action 1403 on Native Mass Spectrometry and Related Methods for Structural Biology. The aim of this action is to nucleate a group of researchers with a common interest, namely developing and applying new biomolecular mass spectrometry (MS) methods in order to make the characterization of protein structure and dynamics more rapid and routine. Methods include non-denaturing MS approaches in combination with ion mobility, as well as hydrogen-deuterium exchange, chemical crosslinking and other labeling techniques together with computational approaches. This toolbox will be made available to the broader scientific community, and will greatly enhance our ability to design new drugs and ensure the quality and efficacy of biopharmaceuticals, thereby benefiting human health.The main plenary speakers are Professor Dame Carol V. Robinson, FRS of the University of Oxford who is the pioneer and leading figure in Native Mass Spectrometry and Prof Janos Hajdu, Uppsala University who “produced the scientific case in imaging that assured funding for the first XFELS’s in USA and Europe.” Additionally, many of the other invited speakers are found in "Management Committee" for this COST project, These specially selected speakers are good role models for our younger scientists. The symposium program focus will be on using biomolecular mass spectrometry as a tool for structure determination of macromolecules, analysis of dynamics and defining specific interactions that define function.The number of participants are expected to be about 75-100.Organizers: Jonas Bergquist, UU and Leopold L Ilag, SU.Venue: Johannesbergs Slott.
