Högre seminarium: Manari Nakayama

This seminar titled “Rethinking Children’s Spaces in Public Libraries” will discuss the concept of “inclusion/exclusion” in library services, an idea inspired by my visits to several Swedish public libraries, while also drawing on my previous historical research on outreach services and children’s service spaces in American public libraries. In particular, the seminar reconsiders the roles of public libraries and librarians from the perspective of how library spaces, services, and institutions include — or exclude — particular groups of people.

Manari Nakayama is Associate Professor at Otsuma Women's University in Japan, and currently serving as a visiting researcher at the Department of ALM, Uppsala University, from April 2026 to March 2027. The seminar will be held in English.
