Abstrakt: In this lecture we will explore how lipids self assemble into bilayers, giving rise to collective properties that drive the behaviour of biological membranes. These membranes define compartments and at the same time enable communication between them, which is the basis of cellular organisation. We will also examine the remarkable variety of biological membranes and how lipid composition tunes specific functions. Finally, we will focus on the key process of membrane fusion and briefly survey one experimental approach to study it.
Föreläsningen är ett obligatoriskt undervisningstest för dem som ansöker om antagning som docent och den bör vara möjlig att följa för studenter och andra med grundläggande akademisk utbildning inom det relevanta området. Föreläsningen varar 40–45 minuter och följs av en diskussion. Föreläsningen hålls på engelska.
