Abstract (engelska)
Diamond has remarkable physical properties that make it a promising material for advanced electronics. In this lecture, we explore how electric charges move through diamond, why this matters for future technologies, and what makes diamond stand out compared to other semiconductors. Using a technique called Time-of-Flight, we investigate how fast and efficiently electrons and holes travel through diamond under varying conditions such as temperature and electric field. These insights open possibilities for high-power, energy-efficient electronics that can operate in extreme environments. Diamond also shows great potential in emerging quantum technologies, including sensing, communication, and valley-based transistors.
The lecture is an obligatory teaching test for those applying for admittance as docent and it should be possible for students and others with basic academic education in the relevant field to follow it. The lecture lasts 40-45 minutes with subsequent discussion. The lecture will be given in English.
Chairperson: Professor Jan Isberg
