English Linguistics Research Seminar: "English Picturebooks in Class - EPIC! Teachers’ scaffolding roles during readalouds in year 5"

Abstract

My postdoc research project revolves around the use of picturebooks in English language teaching in primary school. Picturebooks are a great resource to bring in interesting content, develop multimodal literacy, and engage learners in negotiation of meaning and target language interaction. Yet, there is not a lot of classroom research on the topic. My data consists of observations and interviews with teachers and learners in year 5 classrooms, where they talk about their experiences and thoughts on using picturebooks in English lessons. In this seminar, I will focus on teachers’ scaffolding roles during picturebook readalouds, but also describe the project as a whole. I very much look forward to discussing it with you!
