Beskrivning
För att en cell ska kunna reagera på signaler i sin omgivning finns det receptorprotein. Aktiverade receptorer överför signaler in i cellen som i många fall leder till förändringar i enzymaktivitet och genuttrycksmönster. Denna process kallas signaltransduktion och påverkar cellulära beteenden som celldelning, överlevnadsförmåga eller rörelse, både under normala eller patologiska förhållanden. Mer specifik är vi intresserade av hur receptorer av typen receptortyrosinkinaser aktiveras och leder signaler in i cellen. Vi har under många år fokuserat vårat arbete specifikt på hur receptorerna PDGFR och EGFR kan aktivera och avsluta signaltransduktion i normala och cancerceller. För att utreda signaltransduktionen använder vi oss kemisk biologi och olika typer av genetisk manipulering av normala- eller cancerceller som odlas på laboratoriet. Vårt långsiktiga mål att på en molekylärnivå förstå processerna för hur PDGFR och EGFR signalerar. Vi vill utnyttja denna kunskap för att identifiera terapeutiska målproteiner eller processer för att kunna identifiera diagnostiska prediktorer.
