Mini-symposium: “Four traditions of (K-12) computing education: understanding your own perspective”

  • Datum: 13 juni 2025, kl. 9.15–10.10
  • Plats: Ångströmlaboratoriet, rum 101130
  • Typ: Seminarium

(Abstract in english): As researchers, when we use the phrase 'computing education' or 'computer science education' amongst ourselves we may believe that we have a shared understanding of what that means, or why we choose to focus on it. However we may have different underpinning values and beliefs around computing education that are not always surfaced. We chose to investigate this in an ITICSE working group in 2024, considering approaches and rationales relating to K-12 computing education apparent in literature, proposing a set of four traditions. Although the focus was on K-12 education, we believe that these traditions have considerable resonance for all computing education. In this talk I will discuss our findings and invite you to consider your own perspective on computing education as a research field.

Bio: Sue is a Principal Researcher in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge, and the Director of the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre, where she leads a research group focusing on K-12 computing education research.
