Torsdag den 20 mars kl 14.15–16.00 i finsk-ugriska seminariet kommer Mart Kuldkepp (professor i estnisk och nordisk historia, University College London, Storbritannien) att tala om The Estonian Swedish national minority and Estonian independence in the first decades of the 20th century
This lecture will introduce the Estonian Swedish national minority, a small group of Swedish speakers who had settled on Estonia's Western coast and islands in the Middle Ages and where they went on living until 1944. It will also give an overview of the development of the Estonian Swedish national movement, starting in the last years of the 19th century, and the political activism of the Estonian Swedish elites in interwar Estonia where they campaigned for cultural autonomy.
Mart Kuldkepp is Professor of Estonian and Nordic History and University College London, UK.
