Welcome to a Book club on the theme “Sexuality, consent and relationships” (free of charge) on Zoom suitable for English teachers in years 7-9 and Upper Secondary School (English level 1/English 5)!
Are you looking for new inspiration for your teaching? Are you looking for contemporary novels to read with your students? Are you interested in connecting English teen literature to the recent changes in our curriculums focusing on sexuality, consent and relationships? This is the book circle for you!
We will be reading a series of teen novels during 2025 and will start with the coming-of-age novel I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver (2023). The book is about Ben De Backer coming out as nonbinary, but it is also about friendship, family relationships and queer love.
During these two seminars, we will together create teaching content to use with our own students in the classroom.
The Swedish curriculum:
The changes in the introductory parts of the curriculum, which have been applied since the autumn of 2022 in both upper secondary school and compulsory school, show that schools have a responsibility to ensure that students repeatedly encounter issues related to sexuality, consent, and relationships throughout their education, as well as critically examine norms, claims, and conditions. Students should be encouraged to develop their abilities and interests without being limited by preconceived notions of what is feminine and masculine.
