Professor Jerker Denrell, Warwick Business School, Warwick University, Coventry, UK: "Information exposure and sampling as determinants of preferences and choices"
Presentation
Jerker Denrell performs research on how people’s spontaneous information search patterns come to determine their judgments, decisions, and preferences. His research at the intersection between Economy and Cognitive Psychology has pioneered a new approach to understand biases in the judgments of individuals and organizations. Instead of emphasizing “internal mentalistic” origins of biases – as in traditional approaches – Denrell has demonstrated how such biases can arise from the patterns of information search by the agents, and indeed even from agents that are perfectly rational (i.e., act in agreement with Economic Theory). His research has already transformed how judgment biases are interpreted and is likely to become even more relevant in an increasingly complex information environment.
