Biografi
Jag är läkare, specialistutbildad i barn och ungdomspsykiatri och psykiatri. Jag har grundläggande utbildning i inom både psykodynamisk terapi och kognitiv beteende terapi. Utöver detta har jag läst medicinsk etik vid Stockholms universitet. Jag disputerade 2002 på en avhandling om personlighetssyndrom hos tidigare barnpsykiatriska patienter, och har därefter arbetat kliniskt inom BUP och med unga vuxna inom psykiatrin, samt bedrivit klinisk forskning inom dessa områden. År 2018 fick jag Region Uppsalas forskningspris för mina kliniska studier. Jag har parallellt med kliniskt arbete och forskning undervisat, blev universitetslektor 2010, har fått sammanlagt åtta pedagogiska priser och blev 2016 antagen som excellent lärare. Jag undervisar i psykiatri och barn och ungdomspsykiatri på flera utbildningar vid Uppsala Universitet. Dessutom undervisar jag i samtalsfärdigheter inom Professionell Utveckling (PU). Jag är med i programkommittén för läkarprogrammet.
Forskning
I min forskning studerar jag bristande känsloreglering och dålig impulskontroll hos barn och unga och hur dessa svårigheter är relaterade till utveckling av psykisk sjukdom. Min forskning utgår från den bio-psyko-sociala modellen. Det är en modell där arv och miljö interagerar i utvecklingen av sjukdom. Jag undersöker sårbarhet, medfödd och förvärvad, och livshändelser som påverkar vilka symtom som utvecklas. Jag arbetar med metodutveckling. Det handlar om behandlingsmetoder och metoder för bedömning, hur problemen ska identifieras, diagnosticeras, behandlas, och hur behandlingarna ska utvärderas.
Känslor styr våra beteenden. Om vi har svårt att reglera känslor och impulser påverkar det hur vi uppför oss. Känsloreglering handlar om förmågan att hantera kortvariga känslor som att bli starkt ledsen eller väldigt arg. Starka negativa känslor kan leda till beteenden som syftar till att hantera känslan. Det kan ibland leda till beteenden som missbruk, självsvält, hetsätningar, andra självskadande beteenden och självmordshandlingar. Bristande förmågan att reglera känslor är vanligt vid olika psykiatriska tillstånd, t.ex. borderline personlighetssyndrom, bipolär sjukdom, depression, ätstörningar och missbruk. Förmågan att hantera känslor kräver även kognitiva förmågor. Självkontrollsfunktioner som impulskontroll är lokaliserade till hjärnans pannlober. Vid de s.k. neuropsykiatriska funktionshindren, adhd och autismspektrumtillstånd, finns en nedsatt pannlobsfunktion och denna är ofta relaterad till svårigheter med känsloreglering. De forskningsprojekt jag ansvarar för eller bidrar till finns presenterade på forskargruppens hemsida.
