Magical Realism and Surrealist Storytelling for our Times: A Roundtable

In this roundtable, we revisit the literary tropes of magical realism and surrealism for their political, poetic, and pedagogical potential. We explore these literary modes of storytelling to reimagine reality especially in the context of Palestinian liberation as well as Indigenous postcolonial struggles elsewhere. A question for our coming together is: In a world of climate change, made far more acute by systematic and violent oppression of colonized people and other minorities, could magical realism and surrealist approaches to storytelling be a generative way of envisaging a genuine basis for hope under impossible conditions?
