Undervisning

Duration of the Course

The course runs through a ten week period, during the second part of the autumn term. During the first seven weeks you will meet for lectures, seminars and working groups. The seminar papers are to be handed in and presented by the working groups during these weeks and the course paper is to be handed in at the end of the course.

The teaching consists mainly of seminars. The seminars aim to provide you with a deeper understanding of the relevant subject area and applicable legal sources. The teaching in the form of seminars is based on the technique of problem based learning, which means that you are expected to prepare the seminar questions in advance, individually and in working groups consisting of four to five students (see schedule). At the actual seminar you are expected to present your findings and participate actively in the discussion. Each working group produces a one-page summary for each seminar. All group summaries duly commented upon by the teacher are sent back to all of you. You will thereby build up reference notes on the main themes of the course.

Examination

Forms of Assessment

During the course you will be writing two seminar papers that are to be prepared by your working group, one individual course paper and one take-home exam.

Two seminar papers should be handed in and presented by each working group at two different occasions. In researching and structuring the seminar papers cooperation with the other students of your working group is desirable and even advisable. The findings of your seminar papers should be presented at the respective seminar.

In addition, you should compose and hand in one individual course paper on a central topic covered during the course (see further information in section five).

A written exam takes place at the end of the course. The exam is a take-home exam consisting of practical situations which you are expected to analyse and to which you should apply relevant law (see further information in section seven). The questions of the take-home exam are similar to the seminar questions and the tasks of the two shorter seminar papers.

In order to take the exam you must fulfil all the compulsory phases of the course. You must participate in at least 75 per cent of the seminars and lectures and compose two shorter seminar papers. A retake exam will be held if necessary.

Both the course paper and take-home exam are tasks that you should perform individually. These will be weighed into your final result. The grades given are High Pass (VG), Pass (G) and Fail (U). The results will also be graded on the basis of the Bologna criteria (A, B, C, D, E, Fx, F).

The final result of the course paper and take-home exam is weighted as follows:
