Syfte

The purpose of this course is to present and discuss differences between the political system of the U.S. and the political systems of Europe. Is the United States unique, or are the differences with Europe only matters of degree? In a globalizing world, are these developed political systems converging? In order to answer such questions, the course will examine the political behaviour and culture of ordinary citizens, political institutions, the processes and consequences of policy-making, and the prospect that the U.S. and European Union are converging in many respects.

Examination

In addition to reading class assignments, attending class, and participating in class discussion, there are two main written assignments. First, each student will write a research paper in English which will be an original work of empirical research. Second, each student will complete a take home exam.
