Beslut och riktlinjer
The program is an Erasmus Mundus Masters Program in Euroculture as part of cooperation between the University in Deusto, Spain, University of Groningen, Holland, University of Göttingen, Ger¬many, Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland, Palacky University, Olomouc, Czech republic, University, Strasbourg, France, as well as Uppsala University
The degree programme is based in the Department of Theology.
The structure of the programme was agreed on 2012-03-23 by the board of the Faculty of Theology.
Behörighetskrav
Academic degree in arts, languages, social sciences, law or theology/religious studies (or equivalent) of at least 180 credits, as well as sufficient command of the English language are required for entrance to the program. Sufficent command of the English language is specified as:
1. Minimum TOEFL score 580 (paper based) or 237 (computer based) or 92 (Internet based).
2. Minimum IELTS score: average 6,5
Programmets uppläggning
The program is made up of the following courses.
First semester, 30 credits
1. EUROCULTURE: LEGAL AND POLITICAL PERSPECTIVES, 13 credits
2. EUROCULTURE: HISTORICAL AND RELIGIOUS PERSPECTIVES, 12 credits
3. EUROCOMPETENCE I, 5 credits
Second semester, 30 credits*
4. RESEARCH SEMINAR, 10 credits
5. INTENSIVE PROGRAMME WITH METHODOLOGY SEMINAR, 10 credts
6. EUROCOMPETENCE II, 5 credits
7. INTENSIVE PROGRAM, 5 credits
During the summer following the second semester all students in the network will meet for a ten-day Intensive Program including seminars, discussions, and the presentation of a shorter research paper. Successful participation earns 5 credits.
Third semester, 30 credits**
Within the programme two tracks can be distinguished:
A. A research-oriented track preparing for PhD-level (“third cycle”) study;
B. A professional track containing vocational education and training.
8. INTERNSHIP, 25 credits or RESEARCH TRACK, 25 credits
9. THESIS PREPARATION, (for the equivalent of 5 credits)
Fourth semester, 30 credits
10. EUROCOMPETENCE III 5 credits
11. MASTER THESIS (THESIS COMPLETION), (equivalent to 25 credits)
**The thesis will be initiated during the third semester, with a work-load equivalent to 5 credits. Credits for Eurocompetence III are assigned to the third semester; the course is conducted during the final semester.
Undervisning
AIMS
The programme is part of the exchange programme at Uppsala University and aims to provide an overarching perspective and introduction on Europe, its cultural background as well as the history and organisation of the European Union. The perspective is interdisciplinary and involves disciplines such as language studies, the history of ideas, politics, law and theology and it aims, as an interdisciplinary programme, to enable students to elaborate a qualified analysis and evaluation of European culture and society from different academic perspectives, and to analyse and describe Europe and European identity in a global setting. The programme also aims at giving the students communicative and managerial skills, called eurocompetence, to use their theoretical and academic knowledge in a practical setting and thereby being able to contribute to a variety of different areas of competence. The programme aims both at preparing students for further academic careers and for other important fields of work in European related areas. This is provided by both research-oriented seminars and by internships.
OBJECTIVES
The students shall develop
- an interdisciplinary understanding, and capacity to do comprehensive analysis of European history, society and culture
- capacity to understand, combine and integrate critically knowledge and insights from inter-disciplinary perspectives on Europe
- ability to judge independently and critically academic research in the field of European history, society and culture
- capacity to communicate their knowledge in to different fields and by different means of communication
- capacity to take part in and manage projects concerning European issues, developments and relations
- ability to reflect and take part in public debates and on leading European political, scientific and cultural discourses in a reflexive and critical way
Language of Instructions
The programme assumes qualified knowledge of English and all courses will be taught in English.
Examen
All students with a minimum first degree of three years of full-time study will, after completion of 120 hp/120 ECTS including a Master Thesis, be provided with a Master of Arts in Theology, with main area of studies in Euroculture, 120 ECTS, from Uppsala University. All students who have completed their second semester at another university within the network may apply for a double degree.

Exchanges studies second semester
During the second semester the students can choose to stay at Uppsala University or as an alternative the students are offered the opportunity to choose to study at one of the other universities offering the Euroculture-program.
Grading systems
The program operates with the Swedish grading system as well as the ECTS grading scale.
