Entry requirements

120 credits with (1) 90 credits in earth science or biology, or (2) 90 credits in technology or physics and 30 credits in earth science or environmental science. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary course English 6.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • present scientific research orally and in writing
  • identify the requirements of presenting scientific research orally and in writing with reference to different target groups and apply them to scientific presentations
  • assess various styles of oral and written presentations with reference to different target groups

Content

Lectures on the basic demands of and styles of oral and written presentations. The content of a scientific article. How to write a successful scientific article. How to avoid the most common linguistic and stylistic mistakes. Practical work with written and oral presentations in various scientific works, and how to referee a scientific manuscript. Equal opportunities with respect to the Discrimination Act.

Instruction

Lectures, obligatory individual written and oral presentations.

Assessment

Written and oral presentations must be approved.

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding special pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
