Semester 1

During the first semester students take two mandatory courses in Conservation (15 credits each). The first course introduces heritage studies from an international point of view, focusing on issues of social and economic development and sustainability. The second course focuses on Conservation as an academic discipline, introducing different theories and methodologies and developing the students' writing skills.

Semester 2

Four courses in Conservation are offered during the second semester. The courses mirror different themes in Conservation research with a focus on development and sustainability. If a student wishes to end the programme after one year, a Master's thesis of 30 credits is chosen instead of these courses.

Semester 3

In the third semester students begin working on their Master's theses during the first half of the semester. To help students develop their thesis topics, a seminar series is given in the beginning of the semester. It is also possible for students to study abroad during this semester, should they wish to. In the second half of the semester, there will be several advanced courses to choose from. Students can then focus on one of the course topics from semester 2. Alternatively, students may choose to do an internship during this period.

Semester 4

The programme ends with students finishing their Master's theses. If a student has already written the one-year Master's thesis of 30 credits, he or she may write a smaller thesis in order to complete the Master's degree.

Master's Thesis in Conservation, 45 credits (mandatory)
