Uppsala University Day at Peking University and Fudan University in Shanghai

In early November Vice Chancellor Anders Hallberg travelled with a delegation from Uppsala University to take part in Uppsala University Day at Peking University and Fudan University in Shanghai.

The purpose of Uppsala University Day was to broaden the interfaces between researchers, alumns, and students. Uppsala University Day included workshops, lectures, seminars, interactive Web lectures, and meetings between researchers from Uppsala University and the Chinese universities. Uppsala University also informed students about educational programs, scholarships, and exchange programs.

In connection with Uppsala University Day, Uppsala University arranged two highly successful and well-attended banquets for alumns and friends. On October 31, Vice Chancellor Anders Hallberg hosted a banquet at the Swedish embassy in Beijing together with the embassy’s ministry liaison, Jakob Kiefer. The dinner was arranged in collaboration with the UU Beijing Alumni Chapter.

On November 3, Vice Chancellor Anders Hallberg hosted a banquet at the Nordic Centre in Shanghai. During dinner guests were entertained by violinist Haiou Meng and the Stockholm Boys’ Choir. The choir featured some pieces in Chinese, to the delight of the audience. During the banquet the foundation was also laid for a new local branch of the Uppsala University Shanghai Alumni Chapter.

During the University’s visit in China an Alumn Banquet was also arranged for current students and graduates of the Swedish-Chinese Computer Science Program that Uppsala developed together with Tongji University. The dinner was hosted by Anders Berglund, senior lecturer at the Department of Information Technology. The banquet was held in central Shanghai and was greatly appreciated by teachers, students, and staff.
