About the course

This course will equip you to meet some of the unique challenges of teaching about genocide and other instances of large-scale mass murder. We will provide you with skills critical for understanding when the history and memory of the Holocaust and other genocides are being misused for political and other (potentially) nationalistic uses. We will also provide you with some pedagogic tools, such as film, art, literature, and poetry. Also, different national pedagogic strategies will be discussed.

Outline for distance course: The course is net-based with no mandatory meetings. Students will interact with teachers and each other via digital seminars and e-mail. You must have a computer with internet access and e-mail to be able to follow the course. The course is examined through active participation in digital seminars and written assignments.
