Layout of the programme

The Master Programme in International Health prepares professionals with medical or other undergraduate degrees to play leadership roles in promoting global health.

This program equips students from multiple disciplines and all continents with skills to appreciate and analyse global health problems and to develop and evaluate actions to improve public health. A special emphasis is placed on child health, sexual and reproductive health and rights, public health in human-itarian assistance and public health nutrition.

The programme is composed of compulsory and elective courses and includes an opportunity for the students to plan, perform, analyse and report an independent research project in the field of

global health.

Compulsory courses:

Research Methods in Global Health 10 credits

Advanced Quantitative Research Methods 5 credits

Advanced Qualitative Research Methods in Global Health 5 credits

The compulsory courses are offered every academic year. Students can meet the degree requirements in two academic years by comp- leting their courses and their degree projects. The degree projects should address a topic in global health. This normally involves analysis of data obtained from the student's own field work or secondary data. Students must write a project report and present their work at a seminar.

Instruction

The education includes lectures, seminars, group work, and project/research work. It is deeply rooted in current international

health research and includes presentations on on-going research at the department as well as by invited scientists.

The lecturers have vast experience of global health work in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The seminars are designed to develop the ability to under-stand, interpret and critically evaluate scientific literature. This also includes exercises in discussing results, choices of methods and summarizing facts and hypotheses both orally and in writing.

The increasing depth oftheo-retical knowledge is measured at the examination of the different courses. The ability to analyse, evaluate and draw conclusion from scientific data is judged at specific seminars and theoretical tasks.

Degree

The programme leads to a Master of Medical Science (120 credits), with

International Health as the main field of study. The programme includes 120 credits (two years of full-time study).

There is a possibility to leave the programme after one year with 60 credits, including a degree project of 30 credits and then receive the Master of Medical Science (60 credits) with International Health as the main field of study.
