Entry requirements

120 credits in science and technology with at least 60 credits chemistry or 30 credits chemistry and 30 credits physics. Course in Single variable calculus is recommended.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • describe and explain the structure of polymers in melt and different solvents of polymers
  • analyse and solve problems based on the properties of linear viscoelastic materials and be able to discuss effects of non-linear viscoelasticity
  • suggest and explain choices of polymeric materials in different practical applications especially regarding rheological properties
  • account for the origin and properties of electrorheological dispersions, and be able to discuss and review suggestions for practical applications critically.

Content

Polymer structure and polymer statistics; rheological concepts; linear and non-linear viscoelasticity; electrorheology.

Instruction

Lectures and/or seminars, laboratory work.

Assessment

Written and/or oral theoretical examination at the end of the course. Passed laboratory work is required for a pass grade the course. Written examination correspond 4 HE credits and laboratory sessions correspond to 1 credits. The final grades corresponds to a weighted average of the results of the theoretical examination and the laboratory work..
