Entry requirements

120 credits science and technology with 60 credits Chemistry or 30 credits Chemistry and 30 credits Physics or Biology. Chemical Thermodynamics is recommended.

Learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student should be able to:

  • apply thermodynamic relations to polymeric systems especially phase diagrams.
  • discuss the physical principles related to the swelling of charged and uncharged gells, and being able to sugges how this can be used in practical applications
  • discuss and predict how different materials can be joined by adhension, and be able to suggest and motivate suitable methods to solve a given problem.
  • describe the electronic properties of polymeric semiconductors and apply this knowledge on relevant problems

Content

Thermodynamics for polymer solutions and polymer melts, adhesion, physical and chemically cross-linked gels, swelling of gels, polymeric semiconductors.

Instruction

Lectures and/or seminars, laboratory work and/or projects.

Assessment

Written examination during/at the end of the course. The written test corresponds to 3 credits, laboratory work and project corresponds to 2 credits. The final grades is a weighted average of the results in the theory test and the laboratory work.7
