Entry requirements

120 credits including 60 credits in chemistry. Admission requires a project plan accepted by the department.

Learning outcomes

After completing this course, the student should be able to:

  • account for how research and/or scientific development can be organised and implemented at a university department, a company or an authority.
  • perform literature search to acquire relevant information for a planned research project.
  • with limited supervision independently participate in a well-defined scientific research project..

Content

Under the supervision of a researcher responsible for examination the student shall be informed about the goals of research projects and the methods used to achieve them. The student will be given opportunities to participate in practical work at the department under proper guidance. The student will participate in internal lectures, seminars and other gatherings where common workplace issues are discussed. Furthermore, the student has to familiarise him/herself with the theoretical background for one of the research projects at the department. Literature for these theoretical studies is selected by the supervisor.

Instruction

Instruction is given in the form of individual tutoring.

Assessment

The researcher responsible for examination designs and carries through the examination of the theoretical part. The practical work will be presented orally at the department/company and in a written report according to the instructions given by the supervisor. In order to pass the course, an approved examination on the theory, as well as approved oral presentation and written report are required.
