Learning outcomes

After the course the student should be able to:

  • plan carry out and further develop biochemical experiments correctly applying the most essential biochemical analysis and purification methods.
  • use computer programs for analysis of biochemical data and for molecular graphics

Content

Advanced presentation of analytical and preparative separation techniques: chromatographic methods for preparation and analysis. Electrophoresis of proteins and nucleic acids. Protein purification. Gene/cDNA cloning. Enzyme characterisation. Use of computers for visualisation and modelling of macromolecules, analysis of experimental data and bioinformatics.

Instruction

The course is given in the form of lectures, exercises and laboratory sessions. Participation in laboratory sessions and exercises is compulsory.

Assessment

Written examinations are organised at the end of the course and/or during the time of the course and correspond to 2 credits.
