General provisions
The course is given within the Master's Programme in Social Analysis of Economy and Organisation. The course is given in English.
Entry requirements
Degree of Bachelor 180 credits, including 90 credits in sociology, social psychology, economic history, business studies, social and economic geography or equivalent, and admitted to the Master programme in Social Analysis of Economy and Organisation.
Proof of skills in English to a level corresponding to English B in the Swedish secondary school. This is normally attested by means of an internationally recognised test with the following minimum scores:
- IELTS: an overall mark of 6.5 and section below 5.5
- TOEFL: Paper-based: Score of 4.5 (scale 1-6) in written test and a total score of 575. Internet-based: Score of 20 (scale 1-30) in written test and a total of 90
- Cambridge: CAE, CPE
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the students shall be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of how to organise and conduct research in the relevant areas
- demonstrate proficiency on how to pose scientific questions
- demonstrate how to critically reflect on ongoing research
Content
The course presents central research questions of the four different disciplines studied in the programme. Recently finished and ongoing research projects will be presented and discussed, analysing questions, theory, empirical material, analysis and results in order to show and discuss the practice of research.
Instruction
The student will take part in lectures and seminars in which recently finished and ongoing research projects are presented and discussed. Readings will be tied to the research projects, but may include more general methodological and/or theoretical texts.
Assessment
In the course the grades offered are Fail (U), Pass (G) and Pass with Distingtion (VG). The grade evaluation is made on basis of written and oral examination.
