General provisions

This is an elective course in the third term within the Master's Programme in Holocaust and Genocide Studies. Students are expected to arrange the internship and a supervisor themselves, at a suitable workplace or an organisation, which both have to be approved by the Department before the start of the internship.

Entry requirements

The course is only for students within the two years Master Programme in Holocaust and Genocide Studies, who have at least 60 credits within the Programme.

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide opportunities for students to apply and develop the acquired knowledge from the Master Programme in a for the subject relevant professional environment.

After completing the course the student is expected to:

- be able to describe the internship workplace’s business goals, organisation and responsibilities, and its broader social significance

- share the acquired knowledge of, and to some extent be able to apply, the relevant work methods and procedures

-be able to constructively receive instruction and cooperate with supervisors and other staff at the internship workplace

- demonstrate the ability to reflect on the experience obtained during the internship in relation to education in theoretical elements and the literature included in the Master Programme

Content

The course is conducted as an internship at a workplace relevant to the programme's focus. Following are some examples of suitable workplaces: Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), museums and other institutions of public education such as Living History, the EU administration, various UN agencies, the military and a number of NGOs such as Human Rights Watch or the IDEA. Workplace should be able to offer varied tasks at different levels during the internship.

Instruction

Regular and planned supervision sessions at the workplace during the internship. Attendance is mandatory during the working hours that prevail at the internship workplace.

Assessment

After completing the internship, the student should submit a written report and evaluation of the internship to the course examiner. Evaluation from the supervisor together with student’s report constitutes the basis for grading. Internship is graded G and U.
